100 – The Passing of Newark Liberty International Airport Explosive Detection Canine Handler Francis “Frank” Boccabella III

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the news about the loss of our colleague Francis “Frank” Boccabella III, who passed away April 2 after contracting the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Frank joined TSA in 2004 as a TSO at John F. Kennedy International Airport. During his time at TSA, Frank worked inspecting cargo and as a Compliance Inspector, and made long lasting contributions to TSA and our mission. Most recently, he was an Explosive Detection Canine Handler at Newark Liberty International Airport, where he was dedicated to protecting the traveling public with his canine partner, Bullet, a 6-year-old German Short-haired Pointer and his previous canine partner, Zmay.

I want all of you on the frontlines to know that we are continuing to do everything in our power to look after your health, safety and well-being. TSA’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is always available as a free resource for employees dealing with loss and other difficult life challenges. EAP services are confidential, and include stress management, change management and other problem solving support. TSA employees and their family members can also take advantage of up to six free counseling sessions.

You can also get direct support via the toll free number (800) 222-0364 (TTY 1-888-262-7848) or online atFOH4you.com. Additional information about Human Capital’s Workforce Programs can be found on the TSA Workforce Programs website.

On behalf of the entire TSA family, I send condolences to Frank’s family, friends and colleagues. Millions of people were able to travel safely and securely because of Frank’s dedication to our mission. He will be greatly missed.
