Yesterday, I was saddened to learn that we lost another member of our TSA family to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) TSO Andrew Meany passed away at home on Tuesday after testing positive for COVID-19 in early April.
Andrew was one of ORD’s founding TSOs, having joined TSA just one year after the tragedy of 9/11. He quickly mastered passenger screening operations before taking his skills to baggage screening for many years.
During his nearly 18 years of service to TSA, Andrew humbly and honorably led with dedication and professionalism. Andrew was an avid sports fanatic and rooted for the Chicago Bears and the Chicago White Sox. He loved his dogs and collected Elvis and Johnny Cash memorabilia. His dedication to our mission of protecting the traveling public will not be forgotten.
Information about Andrew’s life is on the TSA In Memoriam page, which is dedicated to the memory of those we have tragically lost to COVID-19.
We continue to do everything possible to look after your health, safety and well-being. As a reminder, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a free and confidential service available to TSA employees who feel they may benefit from the guidance and support of a licensed counselor during this difficult time. The EAP is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be reached at 1-800-222-0364 (TTY 1-888-262-7848) or online at FOH4you.com. You can find more information on Human Capital’s TSA Workforce Programs website.
I ask that you keep Andrew’s family and friends, and our colleagues at ORD, in your thoughts during this time of profound loss and sadness.
