Dedication Presented by STSO Karen Edwards at LTSO Blue's Funeral

It is my honor to speak here today on behalf of TSA.  On behalf of the FSD Robert Duffy, Senior Management, Officers at La Guardia Airport, and myself, I would like to offer my sincere condolences on the passing of your daughter.

Officer Blue’s passing was a shock to us all at LaGuardia Airport, especially those in Concourse D, where Shamiqua had been assigned.

TSO Blue joined TSA Mission’s to protect the Nation’s Transportation Security System.  To help ensure the freedom of movement of people and commerce.  Officer Blue started with TSA on April 6, 2014.  She completed her on the job training and was placed to work with me and my staff in Concourse D.

I remember meeting her for the first time.  She had this beautiful smile.  We laughed as I tried to pronounce her name.  It took me a while, but I got it.  I watched her grow in her role as an officer.

From day one, Officer Blue had pride in her job and made friends all over the airport.  She was loved by Management, Supervisors, Leads, and Officers.  She brought sunshine to our checkpoint with her witty sense of humor.  Her coworkers always spoke very highly of her.  She had a bright smile that can warm any heart.  She had a quality of selflessness, and she always put others first.  She could walk in any room and it instantly lit up. She was always there to call on for encouragement and support.  She spoke her mind and supported everyone.

In September 2015 she was promoted to E band. Her job was not easy, we as officers had to screen hundreds of passengers a day. But she came to work every morning with a smile on her face.  We as officers are given permission to go through their personal items.  Shamiqua took on this role from day one.  She did it with grace, compassion, understanding, and patience even with the most difficult people.  Just image, a stranger going to your house opening your closets, medicine cabinets, and invading your property searching for items that would do harm to others.  This is our Mission and at TSA and this oath Shamiqua took on when joining TSA.  Shamiqua was a role model to us all.

Your family lost a child, grandchild, sister, niece, cousin.  We at TSA lost an officer, friend, and a sister as well.  She was family, loved by so many for too short of a time.  She was a blessing to everyone’s heart she touched and will truly be missed.

The Airlines and the Port Authority New York and New Jersey at LaGuardia airport would also like to send their condolences for your loss.   Our Administrative Office, the Bulova Cooperate Office, has lowered its flag at half- mast in honor of Officer Shamiqua Blue. She will not be forgotten.
