SUBJECT: Veteran’s Day
I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you, and especially our military
veterans, a very happy Veteran’s Day.
Veteran’s Day was originally known as Armistice Day. It was established as a National holiday to honor the end of World War I, or what was originally known as “The Great War”. The date of November 11 was chosen to coincide with the end of World War I, which ended at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, thus November 11. Armistice Day was expanded to become Veteran’s Day on June 1, 1954 so the Nation could recognize all military veterans who served in both peacetime and during all wars and military actions throughout the history of the United States.
We all owe our military veterans a great debt for their service to this Nation we are all so privileged to live in and call home. Our freedom and liberty are the direct result of the millions of patriots who have served in our armed forces to defend our freedoms for the past 245 years.
I also want to take this opportunity to wish all of our veterans of the United States Marine Corps a very happy 246th birthday. The USMC was created by Captain Samuel Nicholas on November 10, 1775 in Tun Tavern located in Philadelphia, PA. The United States Marine Corps was designed to augment the fledgling United States Navy during the Revolutionary War. Since that time, US Marines have valiantly and heroically served the world over from “The halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli”. Happy birthday and
Semper Fidelis.
To all of our military veterans, thank you very much for your selfless service, sacrifice and courage; we are all proud of you. Happy
Veteran’s Day.
Respectfully,
Bob Duffy
